Isn't a gasifier a device that turns the fuel in wood into flammable gasses and in turn is used to run a diesel engine by blowing the gasses straight into the carborateur?

Enlighten me

Partially correct, the gases are used generally for petrol engines if I'm not mistaken.
But in the process before burning for energy production, the heavy tars/oils are extracted via thermo dynamics (rapid cooling) and collected.
This is done several times to yield different quality oils and even directly, diesel and petrol.

Very fascinating video, definitely worth the time.
Something I plan on doing myself after a couple small scale tests first :)

Emphasis on small scale I mean that stuff can be explosive haha!

It's indeed a very nice video and it's really interesting that all these products are in wood.

Well in the setup presented, there are no real gas pressures he is working with.
All of it is run off gravity and thermodynamics.

My thinking is if we are going to burn wood for heat, may as well extract every last bit of goodness.
